Catherine Short, DNP, MBA, RN, CNE, cEFM, is an Assistant Professor at Wittenberg and became the Director of the nursing program in January 2026. Catherine received her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Mount St. Joseph University, her Master of Science in Nursing Education (MSN) from Sacred Heart University, her Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Seattle University, and her Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Economics from Bucknell University where she played NCAA Division I field hockey for four years.
When in the classroom at Wittenberg, Catherine spends the majority of her time teaching nursing theory courses and clinical concepts to junior and senior nursing students. She has a passion for teaching and had been in a variety of roles in nursing education for the past eleven years. Catherine鈥檚 teaching history includes theory teaching in a variety of course including medical/surgical nursing, maternal/newborn nursing, pediatric nursing, leadership and research, as well as clinical nurse education, and nursing professional development. Catherine鈥檚 teaching philosophy promotes the importance of a liberal arts education in developing nurses who can critically think and manage in complex healthcare environments, become effective nurse leaders, and develop a passion for lifelong learning.
Catherine is a certified nurse educator as well as certified in electronic fetal heart monitoring. She also continues to maintain proficiency in bedside nursing in both obstetric and neonatal nursing working in direct patient care. She is military Army veteran, a wife, and mother of four children (all currently in college). She enjoys spending time with family, reading, running and doing jigsaw puzzles. Her and her husband are also enjoying being recent 鈥渆mpty nesters鈥 after many years of busy parenting. She is originally from Princeton, NJ but has called Springboro, Ohio home for over 20 years.
