Writing Center Services

Why should you encourage your students to come to the Writing Center?

Many students have never written an essay or research paper before. Others have never given a presentation. Other students are overly dependent on AI to do assignments. Writing Center Advisors can help with all these issues.

Some students are intimidated by their professors or do not feel comfortable going to them for help. Getting feedback from a peer is easier for them.

These things, taken together, allow students to be more knowledgeable and confident, produce better work, and contribute to a more successful course!

Services are offered by the Writing Center?

Writing Center Advisors work with students on any writing assignment in any discipline. They even help with graduate school and scholarship applications, as well as writing personal statements. Students can get help at any stage in the writing process: brainstorming, revising, editing.

How can professors access these services?

  1. Quick Class visits. Advisors and/or Consultants can stop by for a 5-minute visit to introduce themselves and explain the work that they do in the centers and how they can help your students.
  2. Longer Class Visits built around an assignment: How to develop a thesis statement or how to write an essay.
  3. Class visits to Writing Center, depending on the nature of your assignments. Ideally, you can schedule a class visit early in the semester. It helps students become familiar with the location of the centers and the services offered. You can also schedule a visit built around a particular assignment anytime in the semester. Email the advisor ahead of time and they can design a presentation that focusses on exactly what you need. If none of their schedules align with your class meeting time, please email me.  I can often find an advisor who can make it work, or I can meet with your class. (wentworthm@wittenberg.edu)
